Coaching vs Training
Coaching is a word that in my career I have heard a lot but rarely used in the correct context.
Coaching has often meant show, tell or direct, sometimes it has just meant feedback.
I believe it is important to know the difference so you can be clear about what outcome it is your trying to achieve.
Coaching
Achieving coachee goals
Potential and future focussed.
Listening, questioning, non-directive
Training
Transfer specific knowledge
Teaching & learning
Tell, show, direct
Both Coaching and Training are used to develop people within a team.
When developing people, you should know what you are trying to achieve, this will better direct your actions and conversations
Training is about your Outcome; Coaching is about theirs.
